[COMPLETED] .EU Domains: Scheduled Registry Maintenance – April 16th

Dear Customers,

This is to let you know that on April 16th the registry of .EU domains will be processing scheduled maintenance.

The time frame for the maintenance is as follows:

April 16, 2014 (Wednesday) 12:00 AM – 3:00 AM EST (04:00 – 07:00 GMT)

Domain availability check, registrations, renewals and updates will not be possible throughout the maintenance window. DNS and WHOIS services will continue to operate normally.

Please allow time until the maintenance is finished and then feel free to modify your existing .EU domains or register a new one.

Dear Customers,

We will be performing essential maintenance on April 21st, 2014. The time frame for the maintenance is as follows:

April 21st, 2014 (Monday) 12:00 AM – 07:00 AM EST (04:00 – 11:00 AM GMT)

During this maintenance window we will be upgrading key hardware. These upgrades will enable us to serve you better and deliver a faster all-round Namecheap experience.

Services affected are:

- Namecheap API;

SSL Certificate Activations, Renewal Activations and Reissues will be also affected. We suggest performing these functions after scheduled maintenance is complete.

Existing DNS records, Email and URL forwarding features will work normally – however, new entries cannot be added during the downtime.

DNS, Email servers and Hosting (shared servers, dedicated servers and VPS) will all remain operational. Our support team will be available via chat and ticket systems.

Important: Critical OpenSSL security exploit

Dear Customers,

Please, be informed that a serious vulnerability has been discovered in OpenSSL (the most popular SSL module used on Linux / cPanel servers). This exploit allows a third party to steal information that would otherwise be secured and encrypted with the SSL/TLS protocol.

Unmanaged/self-managed customers who have a VPS or a Dedicated Server with Namecheap will need to do the following to secure their server. We recommend you perform these steps immediately.

For customers with cPanel/WHM:

1. Login to WebHostManager
2. Go to cPanel in the left hand menu
3. Click Upgrade to Latest Version
4. Follow upgrade instructions
5. Go to Software in the left hand menu
6. Click Update System Software
7. Follow upgrade instructions

For customers with the CentOS operating system (except CentOS 5, since it is not affected by the exploit):

1. SSH in as root
2. Run the command ‘yum update’ from the command line
3. Yum will update the at-risk packages

For customers using the Ubuntu or Debian operating system:

1. SSH in as root
2. Run the command ‘apt-get update && apt-get upgrade’

For Managed and Fully Managed server customers, Namecheap has / is in the process of applying this security patch for you.

Namecheap SSL Reissue Functionality

Dear Customers,

Unfortunately, a native Namecheap SSL reissue functionality (available from “My Account” area) for Symantec (Verisign), Geotrust/RapidSSL and Thawte certificates contains a bug preventing proper reissue of the certificate. Bug randomly results in a certificate being issued for the CSR used during original activation instead of a new one provided during the reissue process. We are working to fix this bug as soon as possible.

For now however, please perform reissue for Symantec (Verisign)/Geotrust/RapidSSL/Thawte certificates via End User Portal here:
